Securing the 2024 Paris Olympic Games: a technological challenge

📆 WHEN: Tuesday 17/09/2024

The Paris 2024 Olympic Games was a monumental event, drawing athletes, spectators, and media from around the world. Cybersecurity is critical to safeguarding the integrity of the competition and ensuring the safety of all participants. Data protection is equally essential, particularly given the fact that France set an experiment for algorithmic data surveillance.

The SciencesPo Cybersecurity Association was proud to host a conference that delved into the various aspects of cybersecurity and data protection relevant to the Paris 2024 Olympics. The event explored the challenges, strategies, and technologies that have been employed to safeguard the Games.

Sarah Artola, from the CNIL, provided an excellent analysis of the algorithmic surveillance experiment set for the 2024 Olympics in Paris. In addition, Dominique Yand, Deputy CISO of Paris 2024, shared key insights and best practices on managing cyber threats and coordinating efforts at a global scale.

A group of students who worked with the Sciences Po Paris Public Policy Incubator presented the work they conducted with the CNIL, about algorithmic surveillance and public awareness on the subject.

The first conference of this new academic year was a big success, thank you to all of the students who joined us 🙂
